Telling our own stories....

Overview

This project is intended to fill a dream of mine BUT also Granny and Poppy. They always wanted to be sure that the family stayed together and kept the traditions that they had given to us as children. This is what this wiki will enable us to accomplish.........

  • Each Child and Grandchild has their own page. ... they can upload pictures or stories.. but please add at least one memory of Poppy and Granny that was dear to them.  Other members of the family can add comments or perhaps let it lead to adding further memories..
  • At the point that the whole JOYCE family agrees -- I want to take all these stories -- memories -- rememberances --- traditions  and bind them into a book for all of us.
  • So this is our digital scrapbook or story telling holder.. a place to collaborate and add to our legacy of love ... of family --- specifically the JOYCE Family!

A memory I have is the long road trips form Florida to NY. We always stopped at rest areas for picnic lunches. Granny would stop at a Roy Rogers (was that the name of that burger spot?) and go through the burger dressing bar to steal huge quantities of lettuce/tomatoes/pickles/condiments. Then she would make a salad out of it all to accompany our rest area picnic lunches. I don't think we were ever bought a burger... but we sure did take advantage of the fixin's!

I have to comment on Florence's story about how Granny got her nickname. Uncle Jim was having a Christmas party many, many years ago when I first met him, but as was our custom, I was there early to help him get things ready. I was in the living room when Granny and Poppy arrived and went into the kitchen to meet them for the first time. Granny began unloading groceries and promptly put me to work. She decided Jim was going to serve English Muffin Pizzas, and set me to work helping put them together...her way! When I was finally able to escape the kitchen for a moment, I found Jim in the living room and said "I like you mother, but she's like a F...ing drill sargent..." How smart am I to have figured that out in so short a time ;)

I put your comments on your own pages... I will leave them here for a short while.. but then delete them so that we can keep all the stories on the right spot.. Flo
